Stories of Impact

Chap Founation is proud to be a grassroots-based organisation that supports the lives of many rural women in northern villages of Himalayas. These are the stories of some of the artisans in the Chap’s family.

Geeta Devi

An active village member, she previously faced low pay despite her loyalty. Since joining Chap, she's motivated to ensure fair payment for her work.

Nisha

A crocheter for 7-8 years, she lacked platforms to showcase her talent. In 2023, she won 3rd prize in the cultural show organized by Chap Foundation.

Tara

Initially hesitant about upskilling upon joining Chap Foundation, she now confidently crafts designer toys.

Sunita

Crocheting for almost 30 years, she was unknown beyond her neighborhood until Chap Foundation taught her to face the camera and connect with new audiences. Now, she feels confident in showcasing her work.

Neelam

We used to watch crocheting videos casually, but now I'm focused on creating quality products thanks to Chap's motivation in our village.

Sapna

I never went out alone until Aparna didi arranged for me to meet Himachal Pradesh's CM during the winter carnival. It was a dream come true to present him with a souvenir made by me.

Soni

I crafted without direction, unsure of where to sell. Chap made us believe "jo dikhta hai vo bikta hai" (what's visible sells).

Kamla

I came to Kullu from my village for work to support my family. Finding a job as a homemaker in the city is tough, but Chap Foundation helps us stay home with our children while providing support.

Seema Kumari

Migraines hindered my studies after 12th grade. Crocheting, supported by Chap Foundation, made a difference—I'm now a team leader and improving my home.

Chitralekha

I learned crochet from my mother at 10. Discovering its income potential via social media, I faced material and market challenges. Now, with Chap Foundation, I coordinate artisan team, supporting my family and earning respect.

Sapna

I was hesitant about using a laptop and feared I would spoil it. Thanks to the laptop from Chap Foundation, I've overcome those fears and am now learning subjects like HTML and CSS.

Usha

With the Chap Foundation's laptop, she conquers school challenges, types swiftly, liberates herself from braille books for notetaking, and accesses empowering online libraries for the visually impaired wherever she journeys.

Sisliya

I won a laptop and gained skills in digital marketing and coding by travelers supported by Chap Foundation. Using this knowledge, I created a web page for my company.

Viviana

I am a Spanish traveler, who wanted to explore villages and connect with locals, but language barrier was a challenge. Chap Foundation's tour provided valuable insights into an unfamiliar culture, leaving me delighted.

Trevor

Met Aparna through my host family, admired her passion for organizing local classes and tours to artisanal villages. Inspired by Chap Foundation's work, I created 'Stitching Hope,' showcasing Naggar's artisans and villagers.

Abhishek

Lived in the village during COVID. Aparna's encouragement led me to volunteer, changing how I experience the destination. Now, I deeply care about the place and its people.
