About us
Welcome to
Chap Foundation
CivicHelp and Progress Foundation commonly known as Chap Foundation is a friend of the rural community. The name “Chap” was chosen for its dual symbolism—it represents the assistance needed to overcome COVID-related challenges and embodies a friendly, approachable demeanor akin to a trusted friend, encouraging open engagement with villagers and community members.
The Chap Foundation finds its roots in the compassionate vision of Aparna Agrawal, during her visit to Naggar, Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, in December 2021. Aparna, moved by the challenges faced by local communities, especially women and children during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the economic strains exacerbated by dwindling tourist numbers, felt a calling to act.
Chap Foundation embarked on its mission to empower local communities and create sustainable income opportunities with the launch of the “Shobla Bana” Festival in April 2022. This inaugural festival served as a platform for direct engagement between tourists and the local community, especially women artisans, setting the stage for Chap’s dedication to fostering positive change and economic empowerment in the region.
Formally established in May 2022, Chap provide resolutions towards India’s employment challenge through Responsible Tourism. We believe tourism has the potential to transform the lives of villagers in helping them acquire skills to become employable. Hospitality is a natural skill to Indians, its popularly said,’ Atithi Devo Bhava’. We put this skill to foster relationships between visitors and locals while showcasing cultural heritage and ensuring sustainable development in villages.
You Can Help By donating to train and upskill women in villages of Northern Himalayas. Our Mission is to Improve socio-economic conditions of rural woman.

What Make Us Different
Chap Foundation stands out for its focused approach in empowering marginalized communities, especially rural women, through skill development, responsible tourism, and sustainable practices tailored for the Northern Himalayan villages. We celebrate this approach by hosting culturally immersive festivals like Shobla Bana in Himachal and Kala Bhitoli in Uttarakhand, creating platforms for locals and tourists alike.
Our model, rooted in responsible tourism, is both vital and well-received by the communities and travelers. We facilitate meaningful interactions between tourists and locals through informative craft and heritage tours, complemented by digital skilling initiatives.
Recipients of donated laptops benefit from interactive sessions where tourists share their skills and knowledge, fostering a collaborative learning environment. To learn more about our innovative initiatives, visit our project page.
